I was working on a story during my lunch break, one I really liked and was hoping to complete tonight. I'd downloaded the latest version off my site, which is where I store things that I work on in multiple locations, so I can access it wherever. I clicked "Open with" to open it in Word and merrily began writing away. Unfortnately, when you do this, Word saves the file to C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Temp, and if you try to save changes, it DOESN'T PROMPT YOU WHETHER YOU WANT TO SAVE IT TO YOUR OWN DAMNED DRIVE THE MOTHERFUCKING BITCH. I'm pretty sure I did save it. I'm very good about that usually.
I then had to turn off my computer to move it to my new office. When I turned it back on, the file was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I thought the Temp folder was just dumped or something, but apparently, my file NEVER EXISTED. I looked in the Temp folder and files I'd worked on WEEKS ago were still there. But not this file.
I ran all sorts of recovery software, but NOTHING.
Then I got totally confused and did something stupid -- downloaded the file again to see if that's where it really ended up. Which saved a file of the same name in that place, so now if there *was* something of the appropriate name hiding deep in there somewhere, it's probably been overwritten.
I am so fucking pissed.
I felt really good about what I'd added. And now I'm really pissed and distressed and can't go back to do it again, and I don't know how long it will be until I can open the earlier version of file without feeling UTTER RAGE and not being able to work on it anymore. God DAMN it, I was almost DONE.
MOTHERFUCKING HELL.
I had some stuff I REALLY LIKED written. I dearly want it back. I am really upset. If any of you have any ideas as to what to do, please let me know ASAP.

EDIT: And you know, JUST TO TOP THINGS OFF, I was trying to answer to a comment and had gotten a pretty invovled one written with a lot of links and references and such, when I previewed it and accidentally clicked on one of the links. When I went back, my comment and all the references and code were GONE. And of course I'd closed the windows the links were pointing to and have to FIND them again. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. Stupid JavaScript-powered interfaces. FUCK YOU ALL.
