[Daily Doodle] Auron from Final Fantasy X

Daily Doodle: Hey guys! Did you know drawing Auron is hard? Especially when you can't cover 3/4 of his face with his glasses or... collar-thing?? Yeah! Who knew! I tried a semi-realism experiment today, even going so far as to start from a grey background and work in both directions, using white and black! Wow! I am so not proud of this! But that's just too bad, I have to post it anyway! =D
I just could not get his face/jaw shape right. Ugh. Well! Basically I am displeased with this and won't complain more, as I would never stop. >(
Time: 40 mins! Went over again trying vainly to fix this! Grrrrrr...

No, really, thank you. I'm probably grumpy about it because I was excited about trying something a little different and it didn't work out -- that happens sometimes when you wander outside your comfort zone! Only real solution is to keep trying!

I really like the way that the shadows in this add a lot of the intensity, and I like how it looks like a charcoal sketch (I love charcoals. Love them like burning. They're the only thing I can draw half-decently with.)

Thanks! I actually loooovvvve working in charcoal. I actually did a Lulu drawing (http://justira.deviantart.com/art/FFX-Lulu-in-Charcoal-Gift-Art-36064300) just like this except really in charcoal -- grey paper, black charcoal, and a little white pastel for highlights. I had great fun!

I've been feeling better about this doodle as the day's gone on -- I was pretty damn grumpy this morning, sorry >.>

Although I see what you mean about the jawline, I still like this picture a lot -- it captures the spirit of him quite nicely.

Thanks! I was hoping this style would suit him, but I got really disappointed when I couldn't get it quite right. This is another one of those doodles that I feel like if I just cleaned it up a bit and fixed the problems, I could really like it as a finished drawing. I had a lot of trouble with his nose, too! I think I would eventually like to fix this up, though -- so if you have any idea what in the world I did to his jaw, please let me know! =)
