Fanfic | Drabbles

Okay, I admit it, I write drabbles, too. I always thought I was too wordy and long-winded to, but it turns out that I've written more of these than I thought. Some of these are quite old -- in fact, this contains my very first piece of fanfic, all the way from 2004. And guess what -- it's a Trigun drabble, from before I knew what a drabbele was. That's right. Trigun.

Anyway. These days I usually try to make my drabbles be exactly 100 words, since I think that a specific number of words is part of their point as a writing exercise. However, these days I fail a lot, and my older drabbles are from before I really thought about my writing much.

Final Fantasy IX (so underappreciated)
A Light of Truer Blue
(January, 2007)
[livejournal] (mine)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] ff_100
Characters/Pairings: Vivi, Zidane
Rating: G
Spoilers: Through the end of the game.
Length: 138/300 (134 fic + 162 canon = 300)
Notes: Written for FFIX:"The roads we walk" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] ff_100. This drabble uses the entirety of what I believe to be Vivi's narration from the very end of the game. I really wanted to set this up as a kind of dialogue, though -- more specifically, as if Zidane was reading a note Vivi left and thinking about it as he read -- so this seemed necessary.
Total 138 words 1 single
.
Final Fantasy X (my gateway FF drug. oh yes.)
Faith In My Son
(January, 2007)
[livejournal] (mine)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] ff_100
Characters/Pairings: Seymour, Seymour's Mother
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Through Zanarkand
Length: 100
Notes: For the [livejournal.com profile] ff_100 FFX/Old wounds challenge. Seymour returns to Baaj Temple to claim the power his mother left him. Dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] animecrush, her remarkable Seymour fic, More Full of Weeping, and her inspired use of Yeats' "The Stolen Child".
Moments of Regret:
Ascending Spiral
Heavy Shit
Old Friends
(January, 2007)
[livejournal] (mine)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] ff_100
Characters/Pairings: Auron, Braska, Jecht
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Through the end of the game.
Length: 129 + 178 + 125 = 432
Notes: A triple drabble I started for the [livejournal.com profile] ff_100 FFX/Regret challenge but got frustrated and dropped for a while. I came back, edited it, restructured it to fit both themes ([livejournal.com profile] ff_100 and [livejournal.com profile] pyre_flies's "Moment in time"), and finished the last part, and now I'm mostly satisfied.
Total 532 words 1 triple, 1 single

One Piece (the blame rests right here -- the fandom that I wrote my first fic for)
Blood Music
(October, 2006)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Lucci/Paulie, Hattori
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Water Seven through Chapter 349
Length: 3 x 100
Notes: My first true triple drabble, written for the "Music" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100.
Chase
(November, 2005)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Chaka/Pell
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Middle of Alabasta arc
Length: 300
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 "Zoan-types" challenge.
A Downward Sense of Direction
OR
Why Log Poses Are Round: Redux

(October, 2006)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Nami, Sanji/Zoro
Rating: G
Spoilers: None
Length: 100
Notes: Written for the "Sense" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100. I like this one because I think I did a pretty decent punchline and managed to interpret the theme in a relatively unique way. </self-aggrandizement>
Drowning
(November, 2005)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Luffy/Pell. Yeah, that's right.
Rating: G
Spoilers: Middle of Alabasta arc.
Length: 300
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 "Zoan-types" challenge. Also, most cracked-out OP pairing I've done to date. I'm not sure how I feel about this one anymore, but I still like the idea.
King's Ransom I & II
(November, 2005)
[livejournal: Part I] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100
[livejournal: Part II] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100
Characters/Pairings: Cobra, Chaka/Pell
Rating: G
Spoilers: End of Alabasta arc
Length: 276 + 297 = 573
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 "Zoan-types" challenge. Arguably my first cracked-out attempt at multiple related drabbles, and my first real stab at mirrored structure. Posted in two parts because back then I was a posting whore and didn't compile things like I do now.
Last Sky
(November, 2005)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Pell
Rating: G
Spoilers: End of Alabasta
Length: 79
Notes: My second drabble/fic ever, written for the [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 "Zoan-types" challenge. Very simple, and quite old, but I still think it's okay.
Work, music, and thou
(October, 2006)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100 Characters/Pairings: Franky/Iceburg.
Rating: G
Spoilers: Middle of Water Seven, before the train to Enies Lobby
Length: 100
Notes: Written for the "Music" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi100. Sparse.
Total 1,752 words 5 singles, 1 double, 1 triple

Trigun (my fandom virginity!)
Make the Call
(August, 2004)
[livejournal] [livejournal.com profile] trigun_fics
Characters/Pairings: Midvalley/Wolfwood
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Not really
Length: 190
Notes: Ahahaha, my first published piece of fic. Oh good lord. It didn't even have a title; I had to make one up. For all that it's old and I had no idea what I was doing, I still think it's okay.
