Notes: MY EXPERIMENTS WITH COLOUR CONTINUE. This was very literally an experiment in colour; trying to be more daring and less conservative than in my last two attempts. Also I had to redraw part of the lineart, so bonus updated lineart within!

A/N: Well, uh! I had a fun time experimenting with a bolder colouring style. This also marks my first major attempt to muck around with brushes in Photoshop -- I had putzed around a little in the previous two, but this pic was done almost entirely in custom brushes I made myself. Besides more interesting colours, the goal was to achieve a more traditional-media looks (maybe pastels or somesuch); in general to get away from that kinda plasticy Photoshop look. I think I did okay on that score...

NOW THE OTHER PART. THE COLOURS. I really tried to be less shy with colours here, picking bold shades, like the green background vs and the highlights on Shuraiya's jacket. I usually have the hardest time picking shadow colours that don't just make the pic look muddy instead of shaded. This time, I started the pic by working on Shuraiya's jacket and picking this TOTALLY OUT THERE purple and working my way to the orange/yellow it's supposed to be and uh! Actually! I think that worked out surprisingly well! I'm very proud of Shuraiya's jacket here.

I also like Lucci's neck and arm and by the way FUNNY STORY speaking of Lucci's arm -- when I first started trying to colour it, I realized that the old line art anatomy in the arm was ALL WRONG. Well gee, no wonder I was having trouble colouring it! So... I actually redid most of the bottom half of the line art for this colouring. Clicky thumbnail to see:



I'm going to replace the deviantart copy of the pic with the new line art, but I'm going to leave the old line art alone in my lj for archival purposes.

And, ha ha, once I corrected the line art, the colouring just ZOOMED by. I wonder why! XD

OKAY FIRST OF ALL I very much approve of the coloring style, your intent to make it seem done in traditional mediums was successful! It's very tangible and gives the picture a really awesome feel. *3* The colors of Shuraiya's jacket are WONDERFUL and are so nice against that brown and green background, and it's amazing how much color you got out of monochromatic Lucci-- I'm a huge fan of the purple shading, so I'm glad you went that route!!

Man, I cannot even describe how sexy this picture is, seriously. It's very-- as someone over on onepieceyaoi said, raunchy. SO HOT. I LOVE IT. Thank you a million times for indulging me with this fanart!

And also, did you happen to see all those comments, clammering for more Lucci/Shuraiya? I think you should do your civic duty and provide the public with what they want. ;) ♥♥♥

Man! I had a lot of fun with this. I really am quite proud of Shuraiya's jacket -- I just told myself to like COOL IT and quit spazzing about colours and just MAKE STUFF. Doing this piece actually gave me a lot more confidence in colouring! And since I am usually kind of lacking on the confidence front this is GOOD because I will colour moar/better.

Haha, though I must admit I am kind of embarrassed by the line art before the big update. Still, it's encouraging to see that I've been improving and can notice/correct such things. It was great, I drew Lucci's arm bone structure and muscles and everything to get his twisted radius and ulna associated muscles to look right. It was fun an enlightening =D

PS: I am now ALSO a fan of the purple shading!

And FAIR'S FAIR, I think most of the hot here is due to uh LUCCI AND SHURAIYA??? I am not sure how One Piece keeps producing devastatingly sexy people of all genders but IT DOES and I am ALL FOR THIS.

Haha, I will probably draw more Lucci/Shuraiya AT SOME POINT. I'm working on some new OP fan art right now, but it's het - Nami/Usopp! Fun times, fun times =P

Meanwhile I think I have old Iceburg/Lucci and Lucci/Paulie lying around somewhere that I was going to finish and colour. WILL THAT SUFFICE??

Also, your icon! IT IS PRETTY. Is that junkeemunky arts or is the pixellated goodness DECEIVING ME. It's beautiful either way =P
