A Plea for Help! Finding Competent Real Estate Agent =|

So, as I said in my post of a week or so ago, my parents are selling the lake house because they are in deep, deep financial trouble. It is serious house.

To sell this house, they need a competent real estate agent. Someone who can handle a serious property like this and listen to my parents' ideas and work with them.

Does anyone have any advice on finding competent sellers? I'm lost here; I know nothing about this area. I will be colossally upset if, on top of all their other troubles, my parents use less than the best they can reasonably get their hands on. They really need the money from selling this house — which they never planned to sell. They planned to retire there. I guess... in practical terms they don't need the house anymore, seeing as they're divorcing, so they can't retire together there anyway. But it was a good dream =\

Well! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys; I'm sorry I've been terrible lately. I'm trying =)

About all I know about finding a good agent is that you should always ask for and follow up on references, and it would be probably help to ask the agent specifically if they have any references who can speak to their ability to work with big, expensive, serious house sort of properties (bonus points if they've dealt with a similar situation to your parents'). Also it's important to find an agent who's reasonably web-savvy, since most buyers are looking for listings online.

Best of luck to your parents!

Depending on where exactly it is (which I would not ask you to reveal in a public entry), my aunt might be able to give you a hand. She is a realtor.
