[Daily Doodle] or maybe more like [Weekly Speedpaint]??? Girl reffed from photo

Daily Doodle: Uh, okay guys. I have a real problem with colouring. I'm really shy and conservative with my colours, and I feel like I can never make my colours all EXCITING like some really awesome artists I've seen. Like you know those folks that slap like NEON GREEN and ORANGE and BLUE all over skin tones and it looks effin FABULOUS?

Yeah those people.

This is one of the reasons I've been doing weekly colours as well -- trying to develop a better colour sense and push myself to be more adventurous.

Well. This morning, I came across this beautiful photograph and I fell in love with the girl's expression and beautiful features and I wasn't really feeling any particular fandom to doodle today so.

I went for it, with the goal of trying to be a little braver with my colours.

... and guys, I am PATHETICALLY PROUD of the result.

It has a host of problems, which include not looking like the girl in the photo even a little, and I just could not get her left (our right) eye to look any kind of decent (can anybody say WALL-EYED), and her face shape is all wrong, and only her face proper/facial features are in any way done, with the rest I didn't even work on but...

I am so proud of how the colours came out. I really tried to experiment and... yeah. Sad as it might be, I am really proud of myself. I think they got a little muddy in place, but by my usual standards this is a LOT better than I thought I could do.

Also sad: this broke all my time limit rules. I guess I'd call it more of a speedpaint ("speed" haha yeah....), as it took 2.5 hours. But for me? Something that looks like this in that amount of time? Yeah.

A note on colour picking. I DID eyedropper the photo, but I NEVER used colours directly from the photograph. I always used those as a place to start, and then went crazy with adjusting them all over the place, since I wanted the picture to be really vibrant. I'm total rubbish at eyeballing colours, so that should be what I work on next time I photo ref. But for now, I'm satisfied with just being able to take the photo colours as a base and then go wild making them my own.

Also, I'm uploading this at the exact size it was when I worked on it, so this is 100%, no bigger no smaller.
Time: 2.5 hours

Really seriously please ignore the neck and hair, I barely touched them >.>

gosh I hope I can keep improving
