[Daily Doodle] FFX - Dudely Lulu design v.0.5

@[livejournal.com profile] ff_press: [FFX] [personal profile] justira: Dudely Lulu design v.0.5 (Lulu) (G)

YOU KNOW I was posting this and then the computer blue-screened AGAIN and now it is COMPLETELY dead? Like "can't recognize that the biggest partition (THE ONE WITH ALL THE FILES) exists" dead? And the laptop that was briefly resurrected is dead again and is unlikely to make a comeback (its power management is shot; it can't stay on unless it decides it is actually receiving power from being plugged in all the time). So! I am back down to zero computers at home, let alone any internet devices (no, I don't have a smartphone).

Well. We'll see I guess. Anyway, apologies to [personal profile] owlmoose — I disappeared right after saying I was uploading and about to show you this =\

Back to my interrupted post.

Daily Doodle: So the partner one day was like "I should cosplay a male Lulu. Make it so" and I was like ....YES.

I have no costume design experience, though; I just fumble along with my job classes and such. Also I a too tired [ETA: and with recurrent computer death, too cranky] to give a proper commentary, but I'll give it a shot under the cut. Also: this is not intended to be drag, but a male version of Lulu's design. Also also: was an interesting exercise in gender norms.

Okay. I tried to keep the fanservice intact. The vest is based on Shi-Long Lang's from Ace Attorney Investigations. I also took inspiration from Paine and Nooj (particularly Nooj for the hair, which is pretty much exactly manly-Lulu hair?). I have to thank [personal profile] owlmoose for the Nooj tip, and also for volunteering chain mail as a candidate for a manly lace substitute.

I was thinking of doing something interesting with the chain mail (I used to make some, so I know how). For one, I was thinking of imitating the lace look a little with differing ring sizes and patterns -- and maybe a little subtle colour variation, using different metals? (Since Lulu's lace is a little iridescent-looking.) Since it would difficult, if I were to use say, one big ring to represent one big whorl of lace, to keep everything from sliding around, I thought some big central rings could be made of barbed wire? Anyway, all the mail stuff is largely something I'd have to experiment with by hand.

The stuffed animal is Cait Sith. If it was manly enough for Reeve it is manly enough for anyone. I'm actually considering maybe this guy would use little robots instead of stuffed animals? Who even knows.

What I feel is really missing here is that sense of class and elegance Lulu has. I'm thinking this might be slightly fixed in-person by using classy (not luxurious— classy) fabrics, like what nice suits and tailcoats are made of. It wouldn't make much of a difference from a distance, but close-up and in-person I think it would look pretty nice. Also I know the whole thing LOOKS less classy because it's done in Paint and really rough. So I'm hoping a little cleanup would help with that as well. Also? Chain mail looks so much better in person >.>

Bah. Anyway, I'm not very good at this, though I do have fun. Tips and suggestions welcome!

PS: Yes, my handwriting via tablet is TERRIBLE.

ETA: Tired + MS Paint = BLAH. His arms are bare, it's just impossible to tell because of the way I fudged the hand. However, the bare arms may be changing in the next version; see LJ comments if interested?
