[Daily Doodle] Agrias from Final Fantasy Tactics

justira: Agrias Doodle (Agrias) (G)
Daily Doodle: I ran way over today but I was having way too much fun! I was undecided today between Agrias and Dycedarg. One the one hand, Agrias is awesome. On the other hand, Dycedarg totally wears a dress and looks like a giiiiirrrrrl except with super manly facial hair. Dycedarg is going to have to wait for another day, but I realized that I am totally in love with his design -- hair, face shape, awesomely girly but badass costume -- and will totally do him sometime.
But today: Agrias! I wanted to try a more interesting pose, and Agrias is all badass and stuff, so! I used a ref for the pose** and tried to keep it in the FFT style as much as I could. Newsflash: it is really hard to draw a face from slightly below in this style! I tried, but it kind of looks like she has a monster chin.
However! Overall, I think I really like this one! It has potential -- what do you think, guys? Should I clean it up and colour? If you want, feel free to point out errors and stuff here, to help me clean it up later =D (PS: half-assed sword is half-assed. I spent too much time trying to get her pose and clothes.)
Time: 40 minutes! 10 whole mins over, but I was having fun! I'm allowed to have fun with these, right? ._.

**Reference-use policy, in case anyone's interested
For fandom drawings, I almost always use multiple references to get the character details right, but I try to never, ever copy directly from one reference. I always try to make a unique drawing based on a composite of references -- different angle, different expression, moving around, something. I almost never use pose references, but I think I might try this more in the future, to get a better grip on anatomy and action. I usually try to change things around a little even when using pose refs. For non-fandom arts I generally don't use refs -- I use those to practice my off-the-cuff drawing.

I like the way her hair is moving in the pose, and for some reason I am very fixated on her eyes.
AGRIAS WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME.

I did try to get her eyes to emote a bit, even if my grip on the style isn't very firm? I'm hoping the hair adds a little to the dynamism, though I just realized that I could also show the tip of her awesome gorgeous thick braid swinging out from behind her also.

I actually have no idea if FFT is at all like FFTA or FFTA-2 in terms of anything besides combat/gameplay. I get the impression that the Advance games are a little less SRS BZNS than FFT, but as I haven't played them I am just talking out of my bum =D

XD This reminds me that I'm still totally stuck somewhere in FFT (even though I've had the game for years). >.>;; I've become a total slave to FFTA lately...

FFT drags out a bit, especially since I fight lots and lots of random battles, but it's way fun. I JUST started FFTA and the differences in the battle systems are still tripping me up a bit XD

It's just so CUTE. And TOUCHABLE. The combat is slightly different from FFT -- same principles, but different enough that it keeps tripping me up. Sigh!
Also, did I just pick up a CITY and put it WHEREVER I WANTED? What??

On FFT, I got stuck on Adrammelech (sp?). My characters aren't strong enough to beat him. >< I got a little discouraged after repeatedly trying and leveling up my characters, to no avail. I got little closer each time I tried, but in the end I wandered off to something different for a while. *__* FFTA is so much fun. XD I'm not sure how far I am story wise, I know I have two more crystals to destroy though. It's just, awesome and incredibly addictive. I adapted real quick between the battle systems. I like FFTA's better though. XD Sorry, rambling.
