[Art] Final Fantasy VIII - Awake (Seifer/Zell) (PG)
Title: Awake really, I am out of title ideas right now

bottle_of_shine. She was having a hard time recently and I was all like "shit I am so out of touch fuck fuck what does Nay like -- she still likes Seifer/Zell, RIGHT?????" and kind of dashed this out in.... record time, I think. I'm getting faster. As always, more gripy arteest notes under the cut.

In other news, I think this might have the best "time spent on it" vs " doesn't totally suck" ratio I've had so far. It took me a long time to work out the poses/anatomy (based loosely on a Japanese pic that Nay really liked that vanished into the aether years ago), but really it came together faster and better than I expected. Zell's face took forever, but I am very pleased with a number of things about it. First of all, I think his tattoo came out pretty well. I always like his tat to be bold and well-defined. Secondly, his face is at a slightly difficult angle -- not quite pure profile, titled just slightly up, and I'm moderately pleased with how it came out -- especially his nose, since noses are my nemeses. And I have FINALLY found a way to do his hair so that it doesn't completely fail although I'm still working on that re: Seifer >.>
There's some things that bug me, as usual -- Seifer's build isn't coming across the way I want it to, for one. I mean for him to be broad-shouldered but relatively slim, while Zell is just bulkier overall. Also something about their hands bothers me. But overall, I am not displeased =)

First of all: I LOVE THIS. I love your lines (they are so straight and smooth, wtf, how do you do this!), and I love the expressions on both faces. And as always I like that your men always look different - it's not like I do, the same man-face just with different hair. Ha ha ha - they have subtle little differences, and it's really neat. although I swear, I am not staring at work!

And I TOTALLY PLAYED FFIV. ... Although I should probably replay it, since that was, uh... half a year ago? I admit to being 300% shallow and liking Edge >.> And Kain >.>
Oh, right! I drew arts and you said NICE THINGS! I do obsess over trying to make PRETTY LINES, but really it is PARTLY A TRICK: I draw on a very large resolution and then scale down. This means that small tremors in my hands mostly vanish. But the other part that REALLY helped was actually learning to just GO FOR IT with lines (i heart undo). This was due in part to Nay linking me to chirachira's Confident Lines Tutorial (http://halcyonjazz.livejournal.com/212010.html). While most of this was stuff I "knew", Chira laid it out all nice and friendly and it helped a lot =D
So I recommend reading it! (Are you still working on drawing, too?)
Also! Different builds/faces -- something else I OBSESS OVER. I'm still learning how to make it happen (I have a long way to go =( ), but if you want I can talk to you about it sometime -- it's a fun project =D

Um, Edge is awesome. And he needs more love, because half of fandom hates him and the other half just hooks him up with Rydia and loves Rydia more (although Rydia is admittedly pretty cool). And, uh, Edge/Kain. Um. Have you played the DS version at all yet?
