[Fic] FFX - "Faith In My Son" (Seymour, Seymour's Mother)

Title: Faith In My Son
Fandom: FFX
Theme: Old wounds
Characters/Pairings: Seymour, Seymour's mother
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Through Zanarkand
Words: 100 even, booyah
Feedback: Crit and any other kind welcome =D
Notes: For the [livejournal.com profile] ff_100 FFX/Old wounds challenge. Have, um. At least two more I wanted to finish for this challenge, but this one came first. Dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] animecrush, her remarkable Seymour fic, More Full of Weeping, and her inspired use of Yeats' "The Stolen Child".

When her son returned and her dreams were not confined in stone and memory, she saw his wounds laid bare and raw.

I died to heal you.

He stood before her: cool, sure, so tall.

She had dreamed here, heard pyreflies echo his whispers as this dank womb nurtured him in her place. Now its dark waters reflected a white lace like old scars.

You never saw their words and stares carved into your skin.

Have my death, my fayth, my faith. Heal the world that it may heal you, my son.

--

His mother’s power suffused him, and Seymour smiled.

A/N: I'd been toying with this idea for the entire length of this challenge, and I finally managed to get it down in a way I like. I dislike Seymour a lot as a person, but as a character he is fascinating. This is set when Seymour returns to Baaj Temple to claim the power his mother sought to gift him with her death.

Oh, I like this. I always liked Seymour's character, even though as you said, he was a dick.

Thanks! And yeah, if I met him I'd pretty much smack him, but he's really interesting.

And yo, why don't I ever see you around FFX fandom? XD You seem to like the game, but I haven't seen you around. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention!

Because I'm totally not in any of the communities. XD XD I'M A RECLUSE. Oh, I remember why. Because the ONE FFX comm I joined - like two years ago - never got updated. XD; I should join some of the ones you're in! :3

Psst -- to stay updated on any FF fandom, subscribe to [livejournal.com profile] ff_press. Conveniently sorted by canon! ;)

Seconded.

And I'm so glad this one snuck in before the deadline. It's a really excellent and unique employment of the theme. And you used one of the more understated relationships in the game to explore it. I appreciated and enjoyed!

Thank you very much! I have a confessed fascination with the relationships between parents and children, and considering how pivotal this one was to so many events in FFX canon, it's sadly underrepresented. I'm glad you think I did okay with it, and that I interpreted the theme interestingly. Thanks! ^^;

I'm glad this one snuck in too, because my other one, which was about Lulu and Yuna, suddenly turned from drabble to ficlet. Disqualified. Meanwhile, if I ever finish an Auron/Braska/Jecht anything on time, be sure and watch that one of the Four Horsemen don't ride you down >.>

X3 I am all over that!
